Our Curriculum

Our educator’s use their professional experience to facilitate a program which is rich in inquiry-based learning, creativity and knowledge building.

Developing children's strengths and interests

At Highland Grove Preschool our educators intentionally engage the children in creative arts, music, culture, languages, science, early literacy and numeracy experiences and the opportunity to explore our natural environment through our extensive outdoor spaces.

Curriculum Content

The content of Highland Grove’s curriculum is the result of observations made by experienced educators and collaboration with families. Through analysis and critical reflection, educators plan for on going learning. Our curriculum reflects a strong emphasis on relationships and social and emotional wellbeing.

Highland Grove Preschool sits on the land of the Darkinjung People. Our centre is committed to promoting greater understanding of indigenous ways of knowing and being.

Relationships with our local schools

Highland Grove has excellent relationships with our local schools. Our School Transition program includes consultation between our early childhood teacher and the infant teachers, visits to the schools with photographic documentation and an annual parent “School Transition” evening with an experienced guest speaker.

Children’s Portfolios

Individual Portfolios document each child’s year at Highland Grove, through photos, art works, written observations and twice-yearly Developmental Summaries.

The Early Years Learning Framework’s ‘Learning Outcomes’ are reflected upon for each child and the Portfolios are a gift to our families at the end of the year.

Highland Grove welcomes visitors to our centre at any time, and we enjoy providing families a tour of our preschool.
