Our Goals

Highland Grove’s goals are based upon the principal that each unique and individual child will have experiences that will enable them to become an enthusiastic and capable student during their school career and a confident member of our society.

  • To develop independence by encouraging happy separation from parents, self help skills and positive relationships with others.

  • For children to develop skillful use of their bodies through challenging outdoor and directed movement activities.

  • Build positive relationships with family, teens and adults outside the home.

  • Become aware of their own thoughts, feelings and begin to achieve empathy and insight into the feelings and concerns of other children and members of staff.

  • To begin to understand that there are consequences for their actions, respecting the rights of others and learning to participate as a member of a group.

  • Express their own feelings and ideas though play, speech, movement, music, drama and art.

  • Become skilled and competent in activities that the child sees as valuable, to foster a positive self concept.

  • To observe, question and organize their thinking about the world through information, tools and equipment and to encourage problem solving.

  • Become eager for new experiences and confident in their ability to meet them.

  • To develop the small muscles of the hand through manipulative activities.

  • To develop skills and concepts, providing readiness for reading, writing and numeracy.

  • For your child to enjoy an aesthetically pleasing environment.
